The wide variety of gastronorm containers, in terms of size, depth or material, allows you to meet all your needs.
For bulk storage, especially in cold rooms, you may choose Tritan or polycarbonate containers, which are resistant to cold and allow better identification of the food as they are transparent. You should choose depths higher than or equal to 10 cm. For large quantities of products, the GN 1/1 size is very suitable. These containers are suited to the trolleys.
When you need to process the products, it is best to use stainless steel containers that can be used in the oven or steamer. In this case, pans with a depth of less than 10 cm are generally used. These same GN1/1 containers can be used directly in your hot buffets, on serving trolleys or in chafing-dishes. There are also a few chafing-dishes that work with GN 2/3 or GN 1/2 sizes.
For breakfast buffets and cold buffets, we recommend to use stainless steel GN 1/1 containers or sub-divisions, i.e. 2 GN 1/2 or 3 GN 1/3 containers.
For caterers, if you are using your containers for transporting food, you should choose polypropylene containers, which are economic, durable and watertight.
For some applications, it is interesting to have smaller, but deep containers. This is the case for ice cream shops where the display counters are designed to hold GN 1/4 containers in 20 cm depth. This is also the case in the kitchen for containers of liquid foods, served with a ladle, such as dressings. In this case, a 1/6 GN container 20 cm depth is very suitable.
Beside these materials, you may prefer GN containers made of other materials for special requirements:
Gastro containers made of porcelain, for a better precision on keeping warm and oven cooking ;
Gastro containers made of melamine as an easy to use and very robust plastic material;
Gastro containers in cast aluminium for use on an induction hob or in an induction chafing-dish.
Please note that these containers in specific materials are only available in a limited number of sizes and depths.
