All about stainless steel buckets
The bucket, as a tool of production.
The bucket is a conical container that can be transported owing to its handle.
It is useful for collecting, transporting, or to make mixes.
It is a tool in production units and in workshops, whether to contain liquid, bulk, or waste. The bucket can be made of plastic, galvanized steel, aluminium, or stainless steel: the different materials provide higher or lower resistance over time; stainless steel is the material that offers greater resistance, and has the advantage of not being impregnated with odours and of resisting corrosion, especially when used as a bucket for dry toilets. In the past, buckets were made of wood, usually with an iron rim, like barrels. Some buckets have a spout, which is very useful for pouring liquid contents.
The bucket may have a bottom, also known as a "banding strap", which prevents the bottom of the bucket from being in contact with the ground. This bottom also makes easier to grip the bucket when pouring its contents.
When the bucket is cylindrical, the term barrel or drum is used.
There are buckets with specific shapes, dedicated to specific uses:
- Cooling bucket, also called cooler, which cool when filled with ice. It allows to cool bottles, which are commonly called wine buckets, champagne buckets ; similarly, there are ice buckets. These buckets are not cylindrical in shape and do not have a handle.
- Well bucket: their handle is fitted with a ring that allows a rope to pass through.
- Fire bucket: their domed bottom is fitted with a handle.
- Flower bucket: without handle, but with two grips
- Beach bucket, a toy for children... used to make sandcastle rather than carrying contents.
The bucket can be graduated or not; different volumes are available, the bucket can hold several litres, up to 20 or 30 L for large volume buckets. Beyond that, it becomes difficult to carry the bucket. The bucket is equipped with a handle for its transport; this handle is :
- fixed on the body of the bucket; in this case it does not stick out of the bucket when folded down.
- fixed to the top of the bucket with welded-in eyelets.
There are also buckets with two handles fixed or welded to the body of the bucket: the bucket is then transported with these handles. Buckets can be closed with lids.
Bucket with lid
Plastic buckets that have an airtight lid are cylindrical shaped water closer to the shape of a can or barrel. The lid then fits perfectly over the bucket. These are buckets used for painting, for example. Ash buckets and coal buckets are usually made of galvanized steel and are cylindrical or conical. They may be available with a lid; the lid then simply fits over the bucket and the bucket is not fully airtight.
Graduated bucket
Graduated bucket or dosing bucket, the bucket with graduation is very useful for mixing or dosing ingredients. The mixing bucket is often a plastic bucket, usually white, rather cylindrical in shape, and fitted with a handle, usually made of metal, or a flat handle for better carrying comfort. Some graduated buckets are equipped with a spout.
Stainless steel bucket
The stainless-steel bucket is the ultimate food bucket, which lasts over time, have great stainless ability, and does not absorb odours. It is also the bucket for dry toilets for the same reasons. Stainless steel, more commonly known as stainless, exists in different qualities, which are named steel grades. The steel grade to favour is 18/10 or "304" stainless steel. There is also a "316" grade, which contains molybdenum, and which is preferred for use in aggressive environments (seaside, swimming pool) or in environments with a high chloric acid content.
Stainless steel buckets are also used as waste bins, enabling green waste to be transported in particular to the compost area.
