Posted on10/27/2023

Finger marks are a common problem with stainless steel tableware. Here are a few tips on how to avoid them.

By taking advice from these tips, you should be able to keep your stainless steel tableware clean and shiny while minimising finger marks.

Use microfibre cloths

Microfibre cloths are soft and effective for cleaning stainless steel without leaving streaks. Avoid using rough cloths or abrasive sponges that could scratch the surface.

Use specific cleaning products for stainless steel

There are cleaners specially formulated for stainless steel. They can help remove fingerprints and leave a clean, shiny surface.

Use warm water and mild soap

Mixing warm water and mild soap can often make wonders to clean stainless steel. Rinse well and dry with a clean cloth.

Dry immediately after washing

If you leave stainless steel to air dry, drops of water can leave marks. Use a clean cloth to wipe the dishes immediately after washing.

Use white vinegar

White vinegar is an excellent and natural cleaner for stainless steel. Dilute it with water, apply to the tableware, rinse well and dry.

Use baby oil or mineral oil

Applying a thin layer of baby oil or mineral oil to the clean and dry surface can help prevent fingerprints.

Use rubber gloves

If you're particularly concerned about fingerprints, you can wear rubber gloves when handling stainless steel tableware.

Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads

They can scratch the stainless steel surface and then make further cleaning more difficult.

Clean with the grain

If your stainless steel tableware has a visible grain, clean it in the direction of the grain to avoid any scratches.
