Melamine tableware : tips to avoid stains and scratches
To clean melamine tableware and remove stains, follow these simple steps.
You should be able to clean melamine tableware effectively and remove stubborn stains.
Materials required
- Hot water
- Mild detergent
- Soft sponge or microfibre cloth
- Baking soda (optional)
Preparation
- Fill a sink or bowl with hot water
- Add a few drops of mild detergent to the water
Soak your tableware
Dip your melamine tableware in the soapy water you've prepared
Gentle cleaning
- Use a soft sponge or microfibre cloth to gently scrub the surface of the tableware.
- Avoid using scouring pads or abrasive brushes as they can damage your melamine tableware.
Concentrate on stains
For stubborn stains, you can make a baking soda paste by mixing a little water with baking soda until you get a thick paste. Apply this paste to the stain, leave for a few minutes and then rinse.
Rinse thoroughly
Rinse dishes thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue.
Additional option: use white vinegar
If the stains persist, you can try gently rubbing the melamine crockery with a cloth soaked in white vinegar. Then rinse with clean water.
Drying
Dry the melamine tableware with a clean cloth or let it air dry.
Check
Check that the stains have disappeared. If necessary, repeat the process.
Additional tips
- Never use bleach or harsh chemicals on melamine tableware, as this can damage it.
- Do not leave highly coloured foods or liquids in contact with melamine crockery for a long time, as this may cause staining.
- If you are using a dishwasher, make sure that the melamine tableware is placed in the top rack, and use a gentle cycle. Do not exceed 70°C.
