What is a skimmer?
A skimmer is a kitchen utensil that allows you to skim (i.e. remove the foam that forms in the cooking liquid or broth) and drain your food in your cooking or frying liquids. The flat part of the spoon is perforated, like a colander, to allow the liquid to drain.
The skimmer can be made of stainless steel, high quality stainless steel, one piece or not, or plastic such as nylon polyamide, which can be used at high temperatures (up to 220°C). We offer skimmers in stainless steel, but also in nylon, polyamide or polypropylene.
To filter your sauces and other liquid preparations, we also offer various models of kitchen strainers.
What is a spider wire skimmer in the kitchen?
We also use the spider skimmer in the kitchen, which, like the skimmer, allows you to drain and remove food from the cooking bath. The wire spider shape is used more for frying. The end of the spider is not that of a perforated spoon, but a mesh of fine stainless steel wires; depending on the model, the mesh can be more or less tight.
The main characteristics of a spider wire skimmer are
- a long handle, for safe handling of food in hot liquids
- Mesh head: the mesh or wire net allows you to retain food while draining liquids quickly.
The spider is particularly useful for cooking techniques such as roasting, poaching, to recover blanched vegetables or cooked pasta.
